As you get past the entrepreneur with colourful turbans and self-styled regal robes and the fiery passion for music _ the fuel that lends an unbelievable, unstoppable, high-octane, untiring rhythm to his feet _ you’ll find a person who’s deeply religious and philanthropic. And just in case you’ve been wondering how it’s all possible, Mehndi admits it’s due to his single-minded devotion towards what he is best at: music, and of course, as he prefers to put it, by God’s grace. A deeply religious man, Mehndi feels that there is immense talent out there, but not everyone makes it to dizzy heights of stardom like him unless you’re lucky to have the blessings of God and, of course, the people on your side.
He’s, however, candid about his ambition to be the best in whatever he takes upon himself _ the reason why he never takes life easy. He realises to get to the top isn’t easy, but to stay there, year after year, takes tough work. An intensely private, shy person, he works as he lives — in splendid isolation _ avoiding power lunches and the glitzy party circuit. Not your typical get-popular-forget-everything-else pop star, he’s thankful for his good fortune and likes to share it for good causes.
From planting 800000 trees in and around New Delhi through Daler Mehndi Green Drive, Raising funds for Cancer Research, To providing Free Food to the destitute daily for over last decade, Participating as a responsible citizen by financially helping the country in times of need be it the Gujrat cyclone, Kargil, the Tsunami, Quake victims ; to creating Music for free to important causes that bring and connects the society together on a mass level or to create an awakening like 300 Saal Guru De Naal, Jago India, Bismillah – that was donated to President Zardari of Pakistan to raise funds for the destitute in the villages there. In his own words, “I follow my Guru’s teachings “Kirat Karo, Vand Chhako” (Work Hard and then share your fortunes with the needy) , so I am not doing any thing extraordinary and don’t like making a big deal of it. I don’t like the word CHARITY for some reason. I just do what I can and that’s it.” says Daler .
